The Perfect PEI Beach Vacation
Your Hosts
Shannon and Erin Parkes
Shannon and Erin fell in love with the property in 2003 when they honeymooned at what was then operated as the Beach House Inn. They continued to make the trek from their home in Ottawa to vacation in the place that felt most like home, staying in a cottage for two weeks every summer for years. It became a very special place for them and their growing family, which eventually included three kids and a dog who all looked forward to time spent in their favourite spot. When Shannon and Erin decided to follow their hearts and move to PEI in 2021, they were absolutely stunned when the property was offered to them for sale (and still in awe at the serendipity of it all!). They made the move from Ottawa to PEI and are filled with gratitude to be able to share the place they love so much with guests from around the world.
Property History
The area on which the property sits was amongst the first settlements in PEI as the site of New London dating to 1773. Unfortunately no signs remain of the original settlement. The main house of the Cottages on the Cape property was built in 1839 by the Sims family, a family of pioneers who farmed the surrounding lands (you can visit the Sims Field Pioneer Cemetery adjacent to the property). It was owned by the Sims family for over one hundred years, and was then operated as a Bible camp from the 1940's to the 1980's, when it was sold to a new owner and operated as the Beach House Inn, and bed and breakfast and cottages. Shannon and Erin Parkes purchased the property in 2021 and live in the main house with their family.
